Timbuktu is a global independent publisher of empowering titles for young women. Creator of global bestseller "Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls", Timbuktu is seeking a highly qualified Managing Editor to manage the editorial process of all titles and ancillary products. This highly creative individual will source and manage writers and designers to develop new titles for the Rebel Girls’ franchise, basing decisions on analytical data from the company’s community intelligence unit. Candidates must have proven track record of delivering outstanding editorial products.

Oversee production of new and existing titles/products from concept to print:
  • Prepare production timelines for multiple products and make sure files are print ready to meet marketing and sales deadlines
  • Hire, manage, and evaluate freelance copyeditors, typesetters, and proofreaders
  • Guide products through the preproduction process, including collating and checking corrections on layouts, color proofs, and bluelines
  • Travel to printing plants for press checks
  • Keep track of any changes made to print runs and keep production files up to date
  • Coordinate with Foreign Rights Director to reflect edits across all foreign editions
  • Organize production files in dropbox
  • Supervise the creation of promotional materials for sales and marketing departments
  • Check and green light production files from manufacturers, resolving issues when necessary
Work with the founders to develop new titles/products for the Rebel Girls franchise:
  • Outline concepts and ideas for new titles/products
  • Create original copy and assist in editorial development
  • Evaluate manuscripts and projects to ensure brand standards
  • Collaborate with Foreign Rights department on trends and market opportunities
  • Hire, manage, and evaluate freelance writers, designers, and artists.
Effectively communicate with all departments to ensure products go to market in a timely manner


  • Expert-level copyediting (on hard copy and electronically) and proofreading
  • Thorough command of the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Acrobat Pro
  • Proficiency in InDesign

Ecommerce Project Manager

Develop and manage a comprehensive online shop strategy, including direct sales, wholesales, promotions, content creation/management, design development and implementation. Liaise with internal teams and external partners to create measurable impact in the ROI of our global web stores through data driven experimentation.

  • Manage day-to-day operations that support e-commerce business including but not limited to, sales planning, forecasting and reporting, web analytics, digital marketing, operations and logistics
  • Work with IT and other key stakeholders to implement processes and structure for online purchases
  • Plan and develop strategies to continuously improve and optimize the online experience
  • Work cross-functionally with product management, marketing, and supply chain to ensure product is on time, to meet sales goals

  • Keep company up to speed with online and mobile shopping trends, maintain advanced knowledge of competition, emerging trends, and opportunities (act as “on-line store manager”)

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5 + years project management experience
  • 3+ years of Ecommerce project management
  • Experience with Agile project methodologies
  • Experience implementing and maintaining e-commerce platforms and third party e-commerce applications
  • Demonstrated experience working with global teams
  • Demonstrated ability to bring structure to ambiguous environments and to work well with people at all levels of the organization

Build and improve software systems for a fast-growing, disruptive e-commerce company:
  • Launch international shopping experiences in UK and Europe by February 2018
  • Integrate ecommerce platform with European fulfillment center
  • Lead code reviews and help maintain high standards of code quality
  • Research e-commerce best practices, educate the team and drive strategies to increase margins and profits
Transition the existing platform to a mobile first experience by March 2018:
  • Lead a remote team of designers, marketers, and project managers to support experiment ideation and execution
  • Execute bi-weekly sprints to increase conversion rate and site performance
  • Oversee day-to-day management of the website, including troubleshooting any errors, responsive redesigns, and enhancements.
Provide team members with best practices and software solutions to maximize the efficiency of the work in key departments such as sales, logistics and customer service.

Work with brand marketing, PR, other departments with consumer-marketing initiatives and product launches to ensure cross channel alignment.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in system design and architecture for Direct-to-Consumer platforms 
  • 5+ years’ experience managing enterprise eCommerce platforms with significant traffic/transaction volumes and load
  • Deep knowledge of the Shopify platform
  • Vendor management experience is a must
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing people
  • Demonstrated experience leading and delivering complex, enterprise-wide projects
  • Experienced software development skills; experience in architecting for eCommerce platforms and managing multiple parallel technical projects and initiatives
  • Solid business acumen and deep understanding of business processes in a direct-to-consumer environment
  • Experience mentoring and reviewing the work of other architects
  • Ability to work in a matrix team environment with both internal and 3rd party development teams (onshore/offshore)
  • Demonstrated management experience using a variety of development methodologies including Agile/SCRUM, etc.
  • Familiarity of UI technologies such as CSS, HTML5, JavaScript and other common scripting packages
